photoAs we’ve reported, the Hunger Free Iowa Initiative, based in Des Moines, has been working to fight food insecurity in Guthrie County since October.

Upon recent meetings with community leaders, coordinator Sallie Myers says, fortunately, hunger isn’t as big of an issue as her organization originally believed in Guthrie County, though she still plans to provide support. “I kinda had to take a step back and think about what was happening in Guthrie County. My goal is to go into communities that haven’t had these kind of conversations, don’t have initiatives about it and don’t know what food insecurity is all about. I discovered that Guthrie County isn’t that kind of county, there are already a lot of great things happening.”

Myers will tell us about the many local initiatives to fight hunger today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
