The Jefferson Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a fugitive.

Sergeant Heath Enns says they are looking for 41 year-old Cynthia Hobbs who is accused of passing forged fraudulent checks at several locations including Shopko, Hy-Vee, Casey’s and Fareway in Jefferson. Hobbs allegedly stole bank checks from a mailbox in Boone County and printed her own checks using the victim’s accounting and routing numbers. All the checks were used at the aforementioned locations in Jefferson on March 21st.

Enns was originally contacted on Friday by the Boone County Sheriff’s office about the accused also passing bad checks in Boone County. Enns was then able to obtain video from some of the locations where the fake checks were used in Jefferson. He posted pictures of two individuals and the vehicle that they were driving. Enns received an anonymous tip on Facebook identifying one of the individuals as Hobbs.

Enns tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he also discovered that Hobbs has warrants for her arrest from Indianola Police Department and the US Marshals Service for passing forged fraudulent checks and for federal probation revocation. The police department is also working with the US Postal Inspection Service.

Hobbs’ last known address is in Des Moines, but Enns believes she could be in Polk, Boone or Hamilton counties. She is 5’9” and weighs 195 pounds. She has brown eyes, dark hair and is caucasian. The vehicle she was in is a silver 2004 Chevrolet Suburban with a large dent in the back driver’s side door. There also appears to be damage to the rear bumper on the left side. The license plate is EDM063.

Enns says Hobbs will be initially charged with felonies for forgery and ongoing criminal conduct. The second individual in the picture will not face charges at this time.

If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Hobbs, contact the law enforcement center at 386-2136 or message their Facebook page. All information will remain anonymous.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information at it becomes official.
