Greene County added to its list of 2016 Iowa High School Coed State Track & Field Meet qualifiers when the two governing bodies released its tentative qualifiers lists earlier today. When the Rams left the Winterset Class 3A State Qualifying Meet last night all they knew for sure were the automatic qualifiers; those placing first or second. Sophomore Megan Durbin has qualified for the Greene County girls in the 100 meter dash as her third place time of 12.96 seconds is sixteenth overall. On the boys’ side, the 4 x 400 meter relay was sixth at Winterset, but the quartet of Nick Schroeder, Ethan Woodruff, Max Neese, and Daric Whipple, received the final at-large berth and go to Drake Stadium with the 22nd fastest time of 3:34.29.
Automatic State qualifiers for the Greene County girls are Durbin in the high jump after she won the Winterset competition, and the second place sprint medley relay of Melanie Doran, Laurin Lyons, Durbin, and Olivia Hansen.
Boys qualifying automatically for the Rams were first place finishers Daric Whipple in the 400 meter low hurdles, Max Neese in the 200 meter dash, the 4 x 100 meter relay of Neese, Chase Stoline, Logan Lansman, and Whipple, plus Neese, who was second in the 100 meter dash, and Matthew Gordon, the shot put second place finisher.
The State Meet starts at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 19 and runs through late in the afternoon on Saturday, May 21.
