Construction projects keep moving forward in the City of Jefferson.

According to City Administrator Mike Palmer, highway 4 has been reopened from Reed Street north to Casey’s and Dairy Queen and beams for the remainder of the bridge are being set in place this week.  In addition, the concrete formwork for the bridge roadway is being installed on the north end of the bridge.

The City Council has approved an engineering agreement with MHF to bid a street asphalt overlay project on Vine Street.  Palmer says last year the portion of Vine Street between Washington and Madison Streets had an oil and rock surface sealcoat added to it but the application failed.  The City received a full refund for the project and the new asphalt overlay will involve grinding the existing road surface down and replacing it with 2-3 inches of new asphalt.  Palmer says the finished product will be similar to last year’s Chestnut Street overlay. The project is expected to happen later this year.
