The Perry defense continues to play physical football despite a number of players playing both ways during the first 4 weeks. The Bluejays allowed 13 quick points last week to Harlan before buckling down and playing much better defense the rest of the way.
“I think the fact that our kids continue to play physical and hard up front defensively has been a big bonus for us,” said Perry coach Jason Olenjzack. “There are series or plays late in a game like last week where we give up a cheap touchdown because of a breakdown, but for the most part, our physicality of the defense has been our biggest pleasant surprise.”
Olenjzack credits his team’s dedication during the off season to lifting weights and putting in the necessary time to get stronger and quicker. Perry will match up against one of the more physical teams in the district this Friday night when they host Glenwood in a 7:30 game. You can listen to the game on Local Radio 1310 KDLS.
