School across the country could have to make some significant cuts soon. As Perry Superintendent Lynn Ubben told the school board this week… the word of the week “sequestration”, which has to do with the $4.1 billion federal education cutes.
Ubben says these cuts will happen unless congress takes action otherwise by January 2nd of 2013. The Perry school board passed a resolution in relation to the issue at this week’s meeting. Ubben says the biggest thing that would be impacted is the district’s title 1 program along with part b special education and the English Language Learners migrant program, both seeing a more than $9,000 cut.
Ubben says the Perry school board plans to lobby and talk with legislators to let them know that sequestration will hurt the Perry School District, and many others across the nation.
