The Churdan Public Library has been named one of America’s 2012 Star Libraries.

The designation comes from the premier trade magazine, Library Journal. The annual public library rankings are based on core performance measures and data from the 2010 fiscal year.

A total of 262 libraries were honored with the Star status this year, out of more than 7,500 public libraries in the U.S.

Director Shari Minnehan says “today, libraries are so much more than just books”.  She says the Churdan library is a vital community center for those who live in and around the city and they offer a variety of things for visitors of all ages.

Churdan is one of nine Iowa libraries on the list.  They received outstanding marks the program attendance category, ranking 4th in their peer group of 29 libraries.  Other categories include checkouts, visits and public computer use.
