The state auditor’s office has completed their annual report for the City of Perry. Donna Kruger with the auditor’s office presented the report to the city council at their meeting this week.  Overall things look pretty good, although City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says as a small town, there will always be some notes about things like separation of duties since there there are only three people in city hall that touch the finances, the city clerk, finance director and himself.

Niebuhr says they do what they can to have checks and balances in place, such as having council members check over the accounts, but in communities this size these comments will always exist.

Another comment the auditor’s office made was in regards to the Perry Public Library Foundation.  Niebuhr explains that the point is to make sure the funds the foundation has are theirs to do with what they wish.  He says the board of the foundation was not forthcoming with their financials and that’s something that will need to be worked out with the foundation board, library board and city council to assure them that the city is not eyeing their funds for any reason.

Niebuhr says hopefully they will be able to talk with the library board and foundation board and get it all straightened out before next year’s audit rolls around so that comment can be taken care of.
