The city of Jefferson will receive a $2,500 grant from Alliant Energy and Trees Forever.

Mayor Craig Berry says that Trees Forever has been a terrific program for the community and this grant gives Alliant and Jefferson a win-win solution.

“Alliant doesn’t want people planting trees under their power lines, which is a good deal and it also them a chance to give back to the community.  And it gives the community the opportunity to get some more trees up.”

Both Alliant Energy and Trees Forever are awarding 41 Iowa communities and organizations $136,947 through their Branching Out program.  It allows everyone to work together to develop, fund and implement public tree-planting projects.  This program is exclusively through Alliant Energy communities in Iowa.

Jefferson received the grant for its spring planting projects which the deadline for the application was November 1, 2012.

Other communities receiving a grant are Guthrie Center for $1,585 and Greenfield of $1,250.
