Following 14 seasons at the helm of the boys’ basketball program based in Jefferson, Mike McGinnis has submitted his resignation. The McGinnis family will be moving out of state due to the employment of the coach’s wife. McGinnis was an assistant coach for Jefferson-Scranton before taking the head job prior to the 199-200 season. He went 175-135 as a head coach at Jefferson-Scranton for 13 seasons and one with Greene County. Two of his teams won conference titles.

The 2003-04 Rams were 20-3, top 10 ranked in Class 3A, and winners of the Raccoon River Activities Conference, and the 2009-10 Rams were 17-6 and tied for the title in the large division of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. In addition, his 2001-02 squad were 18-6, won a district title in an upset of second ranked Carroll, before losing to Humboldt in the substate.

The coach told the Raccoon Valley Radio Network that coaching and teaching at Jefferson-Scranton and Greene County have been the happiest years of his adulthood. McGinnis is a history teacher at the high school.

Activities Director Dave Waskow will begin the search for a successor.
