With weather cancelling a couple of golf meets already this week, it hasn’t stopped the ADM golf teams from preparing for the season.

Head coach Cris Goodale says they were able to be outside at a driving range last week and if a golf course is open, he will have them practice outside.  He notes that practicing in colder temperatures or other inclement weather is a good test of mental strength.

“My kids have always known that we’re going to practice if we can outdoors.  If the course is open, we practice in rain, snow or whatever; not snow as much as sleet and we’ve done it before.  And they (the kids) ask why and I say well one year we went to the state (tournament), one day it was 60 or 70 (degrees) and the next day it was snowing.  And that was 2001.”

Looking at conference opponents this season, coach Goodale says the usual strengths for both the boys and girls teams are Carroll, Perry and Winterset.  But what will be different when postseason arrives is the girls team is moved up from 3A to 4A but coach Goodale believes that it’s just a classification change and they’ve handled themselves in these situations well in the past.

Tonight’s meet will be the first for both teams to open their respective seasons at home against Woodward-Granger.
