Friday, August 16th

A deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of J Avenue for the reported theft of a handgun and ammunition for that .22 caliber gun. The theft is under investigation by the sheriff’s office at this time.

A deputy checked the report of a calf on the roadway on R Avenue just north of 305th Street. The deputy was able to return the calf back to the pasture.

A deputy was asked by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office to deliver a death notification to a Boone County resident working in Greene County concerning a deceased relative.

A deputy was asked to help mediate a civil dispute in Scranton.

A deputy was advised of a barn fire in the 700 block of 240th Street. The Scranton Fire and Rescue were dispatched and extinguished the fire. It was reported that the burning of trash may have blown embers onto the roof. The damage was confined to the roof area.

A deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with the arrest of two females who were assaulting one another.

Saturday, August 17th

A deputy was dispatched to Churdan for a reported assault that occurred in the 700 block of Sand Street. Both parties involved chose not to pursue charges at that time. The assault is under investigation at this time.

A deputy and a Jefferson Police Officer responded to a one vehicle rollover accident that occurred two miles north of Jefferson on N Avenue. A 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier that is owned and was being driven by Joseph Virgil Peterson of Jefferson was south bound on N Avenue when the vehicle crossed the center line and proceeded down the east ditch. Peterson’s vehicle struck a driveway culvert causing it to become airborne and landing on its top then sliding across a second driveway before coming to rest on its roof. Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel were dispatched and transported Joseph Peterson to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation. Peterson was charged with OWI 1st offense. Peterson’s vehicle was estimated to be a total loss.

A deputy was advised of a vehicle that had caught fire on Q Avenue just north of 140th Street. It was reported that a 2004 Chevrolet Impala which is owned and was driven by Kevin Dean McGee of Farnhamville, Iowa, entered the ditch earlier in the morning. McGee slept in his vehicle until it was light enough to try and remove the vehicle from the ditch. The friction of the spinning tires on the dry grass caused a fire in the ditch a subsequently starting the car on fire. The Paton Fire Department was dispatched to extinguish the fire. Kevin McGee’s vehicle was a total loss.

A deputy responded to a possible assault in Scranton. The deputy spoke with the resident in the 800 block of Locust Street about this ongoing situation. The investigation is continuing at this time.

A deputy was advised of criminal mischief to a vehicle in the 200 block of State Street in Paton. The vehicles mirrors were vandalized.

A deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of Herron Street in Grand Junction for the report of a theft of personal property from that residence.

A deputy was asked by The Department of Human Services to help remove a child from a residence in Churdan. The removal went off without incident.

A deputy was advised of the theft of a small trailer from a residence in Scranton. It was later determined that the trailer was borrowed by a relative that he had not informed the owner.

A deputy was asked to help a male subject at Spring Lake Park return his children to their mother in Jefferson.

A deputy checked the report of a vagrant male attempting to sleep in the city park in Dana. The male was checked for identification and then asked that he move to Spring Lake Park to camp.

A deputy checked two unattended vehicles parked at 222nd Street and J Avenue.  Everything was found to be in order.

Sunday, August 18th

Two Greene County Deputies while on routine patrol at McMahon Access, issued citations to five juveniles for minors in possession of alcohol.

A deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle rollover accident that occurred near Highway 144 at 160th Street. A 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck that is owned by Brian Jay Williams of Pilot Mound was found by a passerby and reported the accident. Upon the deputy’s arrival the driver of the truck was not found. The accident and the identity of the driver are under investigation at this time.

A deputy while on routine patrol came upon an accident that had just occurred at 230th Street and S Avenue. A 1997 Plymouth Van owned and driven by James Michael McAtee of Grand Junction was eastbound on 230th Street when his right front rim and tire fell off the vehicle. The van came to rest in the ditch, but McAtee was not injured in the accident. James McAtee was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.

A deputy was advised by a resident in Scranton that he had found an arrow sticking in his backyard and that he was concerned for the safety of his children. The deputy was able to determine the origin of the arrow and spoke with the resident about discharging a bow and arrow inside the city limits.

A deputy checked the report of a suspicious vehicle around the Casey’s General Store in Scranton. The vehicles owner was determined and he will be contacted about his continual harassing actions.

A deputy was advised of a suspicious vehicle at the Lutheran Church in the 2100 block of B Avenue. Greene County Deputies as well as Carroll County Deputies were not able to locate the described vehicle at that time. A license plate description was given and the case is under investigation at this time.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
