The Greene County Secondary Roads crews have been out last week and this week applying dust control chemicals to the rural gravel roads.
County Engineer Wade Weiss says the dust control materials are only applied to private residences who pay for the service. He states that they periodically go around rural resident’s gravel roads and spray a chemical to help keep the dust from the roads to a minimum and since there’s hasn’t been any rainfall recently, those projects are increasing all the time.
However, one area that has been better to work on during drier days are the county ditches.
“Well, it’s been pretty good for us to be able to cut some of the shoulders off and get the secondary ditches, so when we do have the rain the water will shed into the ditch. So it may not be good for everybody else, but it’s been pretty good working conditions for us.”
Weiss points out that unless rain comes soon, dust will be a constant battle on gravel roads for the rest of the summer and heading into harvest season starting next month.
