Deb Douglass has been heavily involved in the Panorama area since 2001, when she first arrived in town.
And now her responsibilities with the Panorama School Board will make her even more involved.
Douglass defeated Mindy Fear and Kent Muyskens in Monday’s school board election to claim the District 2 seat in the Panorama School District.
Douglass says she has heard from some local residents who currently feel that there isn’t a strong relationship between the school district and surrounding communities, so she felt now was the right time to go in and try to strengthen those ties.
“My real focus has been increasing transparency between the school and the community because a lot of times the community just isn’t aware of what is going on, and if they knew, they would be like ‘oh, okay that makes sense’. The second thing is to re-involve the community back into the school district. Those are really my two general focuses going into this school board term.”
Aside from now being a member of the school board, Douglass is also President of the Panorama soccer board and part of the fundraising team for Youth First, an organization that raises money for K through 8 youth programs in the area.
