spare time lanesA 50-plus year business in Jefferson received a facelift and will have a grand re-opening tomorrow.

Co-owners of Spare Time Lanes John and Vickie Woodford closed the bowling center last year for a complete overhaul of the longtime business.

In their 16th-year of ownership, John Woodford explains why they wanted to renovate their business.

“Well, we decided that it would be best for the community to get it completely done and we don’t want to leave.”

Some of the new features include glow-in-the-dark cosmic bowling complete with 30 LED black lights and a music system with speakers along with air conditioning throughout the building.

Not only did the bowling lanes get a makeover, but so did the restrooms, lounge and kitchen areas.

Woodford talks about his reaction to getting all the renovations completed.

“(It’s) good for the community, it’s good for everybody.  I mean, we can watch stuff that’s going on now more and see what’s going with our lanes, what’s going on in the lounge, you know when we put certain stuff on, so we’re enjoying it.”

A special grand re-opening event will start tonight from 8:30-10:30pm with karaoke and tomorrow the public can see the new layout starting at noon with bowling specials throughout the day.
