A non-profit organization called “A Token of Love” to raise awareness for organ and tissue donors, will be holding a fundraiser in Jefferson starting on Monday.
Organizer Melinda Madison says they will be doing tip night at the local Pizza Ranch from 5-8pm the first Monday of every month. They will also received 10% of the total receipts from what Pizza Ranch makes during the same time period.
All proceeds with go to the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines.
Another on-going effort Madison is hoping to do is create a petition to change a state law when someone dies in an accident. Currently, the emergency room staff doesn’t have privileges to know whether a deceased victim is an organ or tissue donor and Madison would like to change that law so that they could be notified and the Iowa Donor Network would be immediately contacted in order for someone to donate their organs.
She says her continuing message is to raise awareness for hopefully save someone else’s life with your gift of life.
“If I can reach out to one person today and help them to realize, share it with your family, let it be known to your hospital, your doctor, everybody that you see…let it be known to them, if you need a transplant, let the community of Jefferson know.”
Anyone with questions about her organization or to learn more about how to become an organ and tissue donor can contact Madison at 515-370-0308.
