Monday, November 4th

A deputy was advised of the theft of a Burma Shave sign from along the roadway in the 1800 block of 235th Street.

A deputy was advised of a careless and erratic driver westbound on Highway 30 (220th) entering Greene County from Boone County. The vehicle was not located at that time.

A deputy was dispatched to a reported overturned grain wagon at the intersections of 180th Street and Jordan Avenue. The wagon which is owned by Lindgren Enterprises of Jefferson was full of corn at the time of the accident. A damage estimate is not known for the wagon at this time.

Several Greene County deputies assisted the Jefferson Police Department with a three vehicle, personal injury accident that occurred on Highway 4 at the intersection with Greenewood Road in Jefferson.

A deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident in Rippey. A 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis that is owned and was being driven by Keith Lavern Devilbiss of Rippey was westbound on Main Street, when Mark Samuel Kendall also of Rippey driving a 2002 Ford F150 pickup, stopped at the stop sign on 3rd Street, then proceeded into the intersection without looking right and stuck the side of the Devilbiss car. There were no injuries but the Devilbiss car sustained an estimated $2500 in damages to the passenger side. The Kendall pickup sustained an estimated $750 in damages to the bumper. Mark Kendall was cited for Failure to Yield to a Vehicle on the Right.

A deputy was advised of cattle on the roadway south of 255th Street on Quaker Avenue. The deputy spoke with the owner of the cattle and they were placed back in the pasture.

A deputy was advised of an erratic and careless driver on Highway 30 east of Jefferson. The deputy was on another call and was not able to locate the vehicle.

Tuesday, November 5th

A deputy was requested to meet a Perry Police Officer at the Boone-Greene County line on Highway 141, to transport Trent Daniel Robinson of Jefferson, back to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center after he was arrested in Perry on an outstanding warrant from Greene County.

A deputy and Churdan Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a one vehicle accident that occurred on D Avenue near the intersection with 177th Street. A 2001 Monte Carlo SS that is owned and was being driven by Dustin Jackson Hartman of Fairbank, Iowa, was northbound on D Avenue when he struck seven, 600 pound feeder calves that came onto the roadway. Five of the calves were killed instantly and two others were put down a short time later. Both Dustin and a passenger in his car, Alison Clara Hartman of Coon Rapids were wearing their seat belts and were not seriously injured. Both refused any further medical treatment by responding units. The Hartman vehicle was estimated to be a total loss. The calves that were killed were from a feedlot in Carroll County and had traveled approximately eight or nine miles before being struck. The owner of the cattle reported to Chief Deputy Sheriff Jack Williams that 200 head of western feeder calves, that he had just received, pushed the lot fence and escaped. As of 6:00 a.m., Wednesday approximately 60 head are still unaccounted for in Carroll and Northwestern Greene County.

A deputy was asked to check the welfare of horses running at large in the 1500 block of 195th Street. The owner of the horses was advised of the situation.

A deputy checked a vehicle that was reported to have been parked for several days on Main Street in Paton. The owner was contacted and she stated that the car would be moved when she finds her keys.

A deputy was advised of a possible harassment complaint in Churdan. The deputy helped mediate a verbal altercation between to individuals living at that residence.

A deputy Sheriff and Churdan Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of F Avenue. The fire was contained to a small portion of a hog confinement building owned by Jonathan Minnehan. No animals were injured or destroyed due to the fire.

Wednesday, November 6th

A deputy checked a reported suspicious and unattended pickup truck on Neola Avenue at 280th Street.

A deputy was advised of a careless and erratic driver near the school in Grand Junction. A deputy will be contacting the young driver of that vehicle about his driving skills.

A deputy was asked to locate a deer that had been struck and injured on Tuesday evening near 185th Street and V Avenue. The deer was located and the deputy issued a salvage tag to a Greene County resident for consumption of the deer meat.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all  defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
