droughtOverall drought conditions throughout much of Iowa finally improved this week, thanks to the recent rainfall.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor from the National Climatic Data Center, the large majority of Greene County is now classified as in a severe drought, all of Dallas County and the majority of Guthrie County continues to experience moderate drought conditions and southern Guthrie County is now listed as abnormally dry.

This is the first major improvement for Greene County since mid-September and southern Guthrie County since August.

According to the national weather service, Perry has received 0.8 inches of precipitation so far this month, while Jefferson and Guthrie Center have both seen more than an inch in the first two weeks.  All three reporting areas typically see around two inches of precipitation in November.

There’s a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this weekend.
