Greene County starts the boys’ varsity basketball season tonight in the middle school gym in Jefferson vs. Roland-Story (Story City) and it’s also the beginning of the Jeramie Hinote era as the head coach of the Rams. The former ninth grade boys’ coach here has a very young team that doesn’t have a lot of height, but the coach likes the athletic ability of his players and he told Raccoon Valley Radio he expects the players to give all they have. “We’ve got a lot of players in the locker room that are excited to get out there for the first time as varsity players and I know they’ll give a tremendous effort.”

Junior guard Landon Braun is the only starter back from last season’s 8-14 team. Junior Riah Nelsen has the next most varsity minutes under his belt and only a couple others even saw the varsity floor at all in 2012-13. Braun averaged 10.1 points per game and is best known offensively as a three-point shooter.

Tonight’s action is a girl/boy doubleheader with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow. Coverage on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m.
