Greene County has a non-conference wrestling double-dual meet in Ogden today to open the 2013-14 season. The Rams will be in the second and third dual meets of the night with Ogden and the combined Van Meter/Earlham team opening the action at 5:30 p.m.
Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams were 19-5 in dual meets last season and the coach told Raccoon Valley Radio he expects to fill just 10 of the 14 weight classes. Injuries and other reasons will keep Greene County from filling the lineup completely, so the coach said he’s looking for bonus points from several of the Rams to try and counter the forfeits the Rams will be giving. “We need those extra bonus points from major decisions, technical falls, and falls to help us out because we know we’ll be giving up some points.”
This is a three weigh-in week for the Rams. They’ll be in Carroll at Carroll High on Dec. 5 to face the Tigers and Winterset in two more non-conference dual meets before opening the home schedule on Saturday, Dec. 7 with the Ram dual meet tournament in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Greene County will host Estherville-Lincoln Central, Norwalk, and South Central Calhoun (Lake City) on Saturday.
