Greene County stands at 2-2 in wrestling dual meets after losing to Winterset and beating Carroll at Carroll High on Thursday night in non-conference action. The Huskies went 2-0 on the night with a 48-29 win over the Rams and a 50-24 victory over the Tigers. Greene County defeated Carroll 41-24 in the last meet of the evening.
There were some marque matches during the evening with Greene County coming out on top in the most highly anticipated matches. Ram junior Jordan Challen won by fall with :07 left in overtime against Tiger sophomore Justin Kaltved at 132. Challen, ranked eighth in Class 2A at 138, and Kaltved, ranked sixth in 3A, both have state tournament experience under their belt. Regulation was tied 1-1 before Challen took Kaltved to his back in the one minute extra session. Ram senior Dylan Forkner, ranked as high as sixth in 2A last season at 126, is back at that weight, but unranked, He won by injury default in 1:50 over Winterset senior Mason Miller, ranked second at 126.
Rams that went 2-0 on Thursday night included Jordan Challen, Jacob Challen, Forkner, Abe Yoder, Tommy Bradshaw, and Jeremy Scheuermann. Bradshaw was a Missouri state tournament qualifier last season while Scheuermann placed eighth in Iowa at 145 lbs. in 2013.
The Rams take to the mats tomorrow in their dual meet tournament in the middle school gym in Jefferson at 10 a.m. Other schools involved are Norwalk, Estherville-Lincoln Central, and South Central Calhoun (Lake City). Several Greene County wrestlers will have seven matches under their belts in this first week of the season by the time wrestling ends tomorrow afternoon.
