Tenth District State Senator Jake Chapman of Adel has been named the ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Senate Republican Leader Bill Dix appointed Chapman to the position prior to the start of the session. Senator Chapman says he’s honored to have this important position.
“Appropriations really does a lot with all of the budgets. Any type of appropriations that the state of Iowa decides to appropriate comes through this committee. So it’s a big job and it’s something I’m really looking forward to” says Chapman.
Chapman says the state’s finances will continue to be top priority heading into this session.
“Leading into what the issues might be this year, I can tell you the number one issue is going to be the budget. So I’m going to play an active roll in that process. And I’m going to stand firm, and continue to stand firm on those issues with the budget and put it into a good position here in Iowa. Those principles of not spending more money than we take in.”
The 85th Iowa General Assembly begins today at the capital in Des Moines.
