wrestlingThe ADM wrestling team had another solid tournament showing over the weekend, as the Tigers competed in the 2014 Ed Winger Classic at Urbandale High School.

We’re starting to sound like a broken record at this point, but 152-pounder Zach Johnson continued his recent dominance by winning the tournament Saturday.  Johnston has now won invitationals at 152 pounds in each of the past three weekends, and his state ranking has climbed all the way up to No. 6 in Class 2-A.

The Tigers also had two second place finishers Saturday, those being 182-pounder Darold Baker and heavyweight Nathan Heath.

In the heavyweight final, Heath lost to Southeast Polk’s Jake Marnin, the No. 3 wrestler in Class 3-A.  In Class 2-A, Heath has ascended to eighth in the state.

As a team, ADM finished 9th out of 20 competing teams Saturday, with head coach Justin Schmauss calling it “not a bad showing” in one of the Tigers’ biggest tournaments of the year.

ADM will wrestle again tomorrow in a triangle dual meet against Perry and Boone.
