The youth basketball tournaments are next month for the Greene County area and volunteers are needed to help.
Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says this is the biggest fundraiser of the year and she encourages community members to get involved as volunteers to help with the February 1st and 8th tournaments.
She talks about some of the positions that are needed to be filled.
“We do need volunteers. If you’re an official, it would be nice if you could come (and) do a couple of games for us. We have people that keep score, we have people that run the clock, we also have people that take tickets. It’s nice for the community to come in and help because it does benefit the kids in our community.”
The fifth and sixth grade, four-team tournament for boys and girls will be on Saturday, February 1st at both the Greene County Community Center and the middle school gymnasium and the seventh and eighth grade girls and boys tournament will be the following Saturday on February 8th.
All proceeds will go to equipment needs throughout the year for several programs.
