unnamedGuthrie Center’s pursuit of the Main Street Iowa program ended yesterday when Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds officially announced the town has in fact received a 2014 Main Street Iowa designation.

Debbie Menning, the leader of Guthrie Center’s skit presentation for Main Street Iowa, attended the Governor’s special ceremony yesterday afternoon along with many other members of Revitalization, and she describes the ceremony as being one word: exciting.

“Each of the three communities–the other two are Newton and Avoca, along with Guthrie Center–had a brief slide presentation.  Then there was a map of all the Main Street communities, and as our community was introduced, another dot when on the map so that was really cool.”

Marian McQuaid led the group responsible for submitting Guthrie Center Revitalization’s application to Main Street Iowa, and she says it is a great feeling knowing that everyone’s hard work paid off.

“It was work but it was also fun too, and we’re looking forward to what is to come.  (Main Street Iowa) will be in Guthrie Center next Tuesday, so we’ll be finding out what the rest of the work is going to look like pretty soon.”

McQuaid encourages all Guthrie Center residents to attend next Tuesday’s town hall meeting, which will begin at 5:30pm in the Guthrie Activity Center.  During the meeting, Revitalization’s skit presentation video will be shown and Guthrie Center will officially meet its Main Street Iowa partners.

Anyone with questions about Tuesday’s town hall meeting can contact City Hall at 641-332-2190.
