The Greene County Historical Museum is celebrating the anniversary of the introduction of the “Barbie” doll 55 years ago on Sunday with a free “Barbie” Birthday Bash event.
Greene County Historical Society Board Member Chuck Offenburger says from 1-3pm the museum in Jefferson will be hosting a birthday party for the ageless doll for area children to enjoy. Youth are encouraged to bring their barbie dolls and dress up like Barbie along with a barbie doll themed scavenger hunt in the museum with free treats to be served.
Then at 3pm, Carla Offenburger, who taught a class at Buena Vista University on the global phenomenon of Barbie will present a program called “Barbie-a timeless treasure”.
During the entire day, participants are encouraged to view the over 300-Barbie doll collection that the museum will have on display. Offenburger notes that the collection came from a former Jefferson resident in 2003 by Arlene Klatt.
President Ces Brunow says this is a nice way to get people to come to the county museum to see what they have to offer.
Both events are free and open to the public.
