West Central Valley WildcatMembers of the West Central Valley FFA chapter are headed to the State Convention in Ames this weekend, and FFA Advisor Jessica Hebert says her students are both eager and anxious to acquire some new skills pertaining to agriculture and leadership.

She explains what their trip to Ames is going to entail.

“We are actually headed up on Sunday to help set up the Meals from the Heartland packaging event that is going to be occurring at State Convention.  Then Monday and Tuesday, I have two kids that have made the talent show–Jackson and Caroline Doud.  I have one student that is playing in the band–trumpet (player) James Sullivan.  And then we’ll also get recognized for our ‘Be the Seed’ grant.”

That is a busy schedule to say the least, but it also speaks to the undeniable impressiveness of Hebert’s group of students.  She describes what makes her group so special.

“I think it is just the fact that they all have something in common and that is really their love for agriculture and their passion to want to teach others about agriculture, and they really build those leadership skills so they can be successful while they’re doing that.”    iowa ffa

With the FFA State Convention being held in Ames, there will be a couple of highly identifiable figures addressing students as the event’s keynote speakers. They are ISU men’s and women’s basketball coaches Fred Hoiberg and Bill Fennelly.

West Central Valley FFAers will return to school on Wednesday.
