The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Supervisors approved the county treasurer’s investment report for March of $7,285,090.97 and the driver’s license report for 310 for last month. They also approved the paid report done by the Iowa Department of Human Services for the 2013 fiscal year’s cost allocation plan for the 2015 fiscal year’s indirect cost recoveries and the substance abuse grant application for $1,800 through DHS and New Opportunities to continue to the program.
A contract with Goodwin and Sons Paint Incorporated of Jefferson for $2,740 was approved to make repairs and repaint the roof of the Mahanay Bell Tower to patch a leaking problem.
Jack Reed, owner of Iowa Negotiation and Consulting Services in Ottumwa made a presentation to the Board. He offered a few different coverage packages that covers both union and nonunion employees with the county. County Auditor Jane Heun said the county started using Renee Von Bokern this fiscal year and has an agreement to use her services again for the next fiscal year. The Supervisors didn’t take action on the topic.
Jefferson VFW Post Commander Don Ihnken gave an update to the Board about repairs being done to the VFW building on the east side of the downtown square. He reported that they’ve spent over $12,600 on plumbing and other repairs. He said they still need to fix the leaky roof and the cost for a total replacement is $30,000. Ihnken stated that they have the kitchen almost completed with mostly funds donated and grants that were received. He is hoping to have the VFW building open to the public by the end of May.
Vice-Chair Guy Richardson reported that plans are coming together for the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s site visit and public forum scheduled for May 29th. He pointed out that the public forum will be held in the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson at 12:30pm and those that want to speak to the Commission, either for or against, must sign up prior to the start of the forum that day.
