Senior right hander Tyler Thompson tossed a complete game Thursday night in pitching Perry past Ballard 6-2 at historic NiteHawk Field in Slater. Thompson went the distance allowing just a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. The Bluejays gave him plenty of offense in the fifth when they sent eight batters to the plate. Will Whiton deliverd a one out, 2-run double past a six player infield as Ballard brought their right fielder in to play a shallow third to defend against the squeeze play. Whiton made them pay by smoking one past the left side and into the vacant left field. Zach Roberts later added a two out 2-run single giving Perry a 5-2 lead. Roberts finished with 3 hits including a double. Ben Daniels and Jeremiah Ellett added an insurance run in the 6th when Ellett brought home Daniels after a 2-out triple by Ben.
Thompson was dominant once again keeping Ballard off balance with location and an effective curveball. Thompson improves to 3-1 on the season. The loss was the first in conference for Ballard (3-1). Perry will travel to Atlantic for the Trojan tourney on Saturday. Perry will play Coon Rapids Bayard.
