dnrWastewater from a sanitary sewer line is currently bubbling up from an underground pipe on the west side of Diamondhead Lake.

According to a release from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, an unknown amount of sewage water is discharging about 300 feet from the west side of the lake near the 8400 block of Lakeshore Drive.  Residents are advised not to swim or wade in the water near that area.

The Diamondhead Lake Sanitary District is scheduling repairs with a contractor as soon possible but wastewater discharge is expected to continue until at least tomorrow.  The bubbling reportedly began early this morning.

It is recommended that lake residents keep children and pets away from the area until repairs are completed.  Fish caught are safe to eat but should be rinsed before cleaning.

The DNR says it will continue to monitor the situation.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
