85% of homes in the City of Adair have wind or hail damage, that is the estimation from Adair & Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf after his damage assessment team completed their survey results late last night.
Kempf also estimates that most all rural crop fields in southern Guthrie County and northern Adair County sustained partial to complete devastation during yesterday’s severe storms. Kempf says there is damage from about 280th Street in Guthrie County to as far south as 160th Street in Adair County, which is about a 12 to 14 mile wide stretch.
For area residents interested in helping the City of Adair with its clean-up efforts, call City Hall at 641-742-3751. A large number of volunteers will be in town this afternoon to help with tree and debris removal.
Kempf says the City of Adair will likely not start hauling trees until tomorrow at the earliest. If able, residents and volunteers are asked to take trees to Adair’s dump site on the east side of town themselves.
The Red Cross is in Adair throughout today with water and snacks for those in need or anyone helping with the clean-up.
Kempf plans to move over to the rural Stuart area to assess damage late this afternoon.
He says there are still no injuries reported at this time.
