Friday night for the Greene County softball team meant another road trip to the home diamond of a rated team, and for the second game in a row the result was a one-sided victory for the Rams. Greene County improved to 26-7 with a 14-2 rout by the 10-run rule in six innings of Class 3A number 10 Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Sergeant Bluff in a Region 1 semifinal. The Rams advance to Monday night’s regional final in Le Mars against fourth ranked Sioux Center at 7:30 p.m.

The Rams pounded out 21 hits against two SB-L pitchers en route to the lopsided win. Emma Saddoris began the night with a home run on the very first pitch of the game. It was the third time in the last four games Saddoris has led off with a homer. The one time she did not homer, she doubled. The round-tripper was the team-leading fourth of the season for the Rams’ second baseman.

SB-L countered with a first inning walk to leadoff batter Merrin Van Velzen and Ashtin Hazel followed with a two run homer for the only Warriors’ lead of the night. It stayed 2-1 until the top of the third when the Rams scored seven runs on nine hits off losing pitcher Miles Ludwigs. Reliever Abby Kolar didn’t fare much better. Greene County scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to win by the 10-run rule.

Emily Christensen had two doubles, two singles, and one run batted in. Saddoris also singled to go with the homer, and she had two RBI on the night. Kayla Mobley singled three times and she drove in three runs, while Sydney Koch and Bailey Godwin each added three singles. Koch drove in three runs and Godwin had one RBI. Hannah Onken singled twice and batted in a run, with Tressa Rasmussen adding a double, a single,  and an RBI. Carleigh Paup had two singles. Marissa Promes did not have a hit, but she drove in a run and reached base four times.

Promes was the winning pitcher and she didn’t allow a run after the first two SB-L batters of the game both scored. Promes, now 22-4, struck out four batters, walked two, and she allowed just five hits to a team that won the mostly Class 5A Missouri River Conference. The Warriors entered Friday night averaging 7.55 runs per game with a team batting average of .342.

Monday means another long road trip for Coach Tom Kennedy’s team, but after a first round 10-0 win in six innings vs. East Sac County on the Raiders’ home diamond in Wall Lake, and Friday’s nights’ 10-run rule win, the Rams may feel right at home.

Coverage on KG98 is set for 7 p.m. Monday with the winner advancing to the July 21-25 State Tournament at Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge.
