The Perry City Council tabled the disposal of public property at the old middle school site during their meeting this week until they can see renderings for Newbury Living’s proposed project.
The company hopes to build a multifamily residential facility at the location, which City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says he feels is a good opportunity for Perry.
“It’s fairly complicated yet I think it will be a good thing for Perry. Frank (Levy) did a very good job of explaining what’s going on and how it works, how the low to moderate income funds work for Perry and how it’s based on Dallas County and I think 80 to 90 percent of our citizens would be able to take advantage of being able to rent in those units”.
Last year the Council agreed to give half of the lot to Newbury for a proposed senior living facility but the project stalled when they weren’t able to obtain grant funding.
Newbury now hopes to have the full lot to potentially build both a senior living complex and a set of townhomes for families.
Levy will return to Perry for the next Council meeting on August 4th with further information on the plans.
