Greene County’s Spring Lake Park had a new addition of another cabin that people took advantage of this summer.
Conservation Director Dan Towers says they have two cabins completed on the campground and they had about 190 reserved days this summer which was about their goal for the season.
He talks about the kinds of visitors they had to the newly built cabins this year.
“I’d say 90% of them were at least out of county. Most of them (were) from the Des Moines area, Boone, Perry, that direction (and) several out of state people. Most of those with ties, with connections to this area, they’re coming home to see whoever and learn of those (the cabins) and that’s where they decided to stay.”
Towers adds that there the cabins will remain open until the end of October and then they will be closed for the rest of the year until next May.
He describes possible future plans for more cabins at Spring Lake Park.
“There’s room for another one or two more (cabins) if the need be. We’ll see how that goes, the next couple of years as we see how fast the dates fill up from the two that we do have, then we’ll starting deciding whether we think we need anymore.”
