Erin BurnieCharges have been filed against two suspects for a string of burglaries in Jefferson.

Police Chief Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio 34 year-old Erin Michelle Burnie is charged with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct, five counts of Class D Felonies for third degree burglary, three counts of second degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor for two counts of third degree theft, serious misdemeanors for fourth degree theft, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and fifth degree in possession of stolen property.

20 year-old Berry Arthur Downs of Nevada is charged with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct, Class D Felonies for four counts of  second degree theft, five counts of third degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor two counts of third degree theft, serious misdemeanors for fourth degree theft, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.

The charges stem from incidents we first told you about last month when several Greene County residents reported they had items and vehicles stolen from their homes since September 1st.  A search warrant was executed on September 26th at 500 East Clark Street after police officers noticed fresh tire tracks were left on the grass from one of the thefts in the 700 block of Cedar Street leading them to where the search warrant was executed.

During the search of the property, officers uncovered stolen scrap metal, tools, tires and rims, three stolen vehicles, (one from Story County), car parts from one of the stolen vehicles along with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Burnie was booked and released from the Greene County Jail and Downs was booked on his charges at the Greene County Jail and he remains in the Story County Jail on separate charges.
