After nearly three weeks off from competition during late December and early January, the Greene County wrestlers are scheduled to get back at it tonight. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams take on North Polk and South Hamilton (Jewell) in Alleman starting at 5:30 p.m. in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference wrestling. The original 6 p.m. starting time has been moved up 30 minutes to 5:30 p.m. Coach Sawhill told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams are scheduled to wrestle in the first and second dual meets. The Comets and Hawks both defeated Greene County in dual meets last season. The Rams are 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference after having to forfeit as many as five of the 14 weight classes last month. Coach Sawhill is hoping to reduce the number of forfeits going forward to as few as two, which should increase the chance of winning for the Rams.
A trio of top 10 rated wrestlers lead the Rams in seniors Abe Yoder (132) and Jordan Challen (138), plus junior Tommy Bradshaw (145). Yoder is ranked tenth, Challen fifth, and Bradshaw sixth, by the Predicament in Class 2A. In addition, junior Keyden Pollock at 182 lbs. isn’t ranked, but has lost just twice. Freshman Kane Borgeson (106), sophomore Isaiah Yoder (160), and sophomore Hunter Ruth (195) also have winning records.
