ADM split its girls-boys conference doubleheader Friday night at Boone. The girls fell 46-31, well the boys pulled off a dramatic two-point win in overtime.

In the girls game, ADM trailed by just four at halftime, but were undone by a poor showing in the third quarter, when the Tigers were outscored 14-4. An undersized ADM squad struggled to contain the lady Toreador’s size in the post, as 6-0 senior center Serena Sandvig finished with a game-high 15 points, and 6-2 senior Mariah McPartland added nine.

The Tigers were lead in scoring by Brianna Mueller’s 12 points, her fourth game this season in double figures. It was a rare off-night for leading scorer Sydney Bertman, who had just five points. The Tigers losing skid has hit four, as they moved to 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

The boys game, on the other hand, was a tight affair throughout. ADM trailed by four after one quarter, but stormed back in the second quarter to take a four-point lead at the half. Sophomore Matt Larson was on fire in the first half, delivering nine points on three 3’s. He hit his first four shots from the floor and finished with a game-high 16 points.

The teams traded blows throughout the second half, and Boone had a chance to win it with the ball and a minute remaining in regulation, but ADM played an excellent 60 seconds of defense to force the extra period.

The teams again traded baskets through overtime, until the Tigers missed a pair of free throws with a chance to seal the game up two, and the Toreadors corralled the rebound and called timeout with 15 seconds to go.

It was then another defensive stand that won ADM the game.  Junior Jacob Hardy slid in for the game winning block on Boone’s Jake Johnson’s runner in the lane, and Larson recovered the loose ball and scurried towards the mid-court line as time expired.

Hardy had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, and senior Joe Sloss added 10 points for the Tigers. Boone was lead in scoring by senior Ashton Clemons’ 10 points.

Both ADM teams are right back at it today with a non-conference doubleheader at Harlan. Pregame coverage begins at 4:15 p.m. on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com. The girls will tip at 4:30 and the boys game will follow.
