The closing part of this Saturday’s Relay for Life of Greene County will continue to be the luminary ceremony.

Chair Shirley Stapleton says the ceremony will include decorated white bags in memory of someone who lost their battle with cancer or in honor of a cancer survivor around the indoor walking track at the Greene County Community Center.  The names of the individuals will be read with Brenda Roberts as the vocalist at 2pm.

Even though the deadline to pre-purchase a luminaria has passed, Stapleton says you can purchase one on Saturday.

“We have some there that they can purchase.  If you had one that you did three or four years ago, and you haven’t been there since, we might still have it.  And you can fill out the paper there and you can put that one up.”

Following the ceremony, you can pick up your bag to take home or volunteers will collect and use them for next year.  Stapleton adds that starting next month, a business or organization can have a display of this year’s luminarias by contacting her at 386-2804.
