Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management has released the first phone application of its kind in the state. Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says the app is designed as a sort of one stop shop for all things emergency management related. “We were looking at a way, with our mission to pull all of our information together. There’s a lot of great apps to get radar out there, but there’s no place to get all of the other basic emergency management information in one spot.”

Kempf says while the app will alert you to weather-related watches and warnings, it doesn’t go too in depth beyond that. He says if severe weather is in the area, it’s best to use a source with more thorough information, like your local radio station. “If there are storms that are in the area, our radar program in the app is not near as powerful as some. It will give you the basic information and a basic look at radar, then if you feel you need more information, you can go to a more specific source.”

When severe weather threatens our area, Raccoon Valley Radio provides live non-stop severe weather action team coverage until conditions return to normal.

The app is available for iPhone and Android products and can be found in your app store by searching ‘Adair Guthrie EMA’. Kempf says the app was made possible due to contributions from private sector sponsors, including Raccoon Valley Radio.

Kempf will be our guest today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County to publicly unveil more information about the new app. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
