The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.

The Board approved the Sheriff’s quarterly report of fees of $43,363.77 and the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center audit report for June 30, 2014 was then approved.

The Board also approved the final plans for bid letting for the ¾ mile on Trinity Avenue in Paton from County Road E-18 north and east to Iowa Highway 144.  County Engineer Wade Weiss said that they will use the $450,000 Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy grant for the project which includes grading the dirt and rock and then paving the road.  Bid letting for the project is set for July 21st with plans to have it paved later this fall.

Weiss also reported about the County’s involvement with the Grand Junction Community Center project.  He said they helped take out the demolished materials from the old community center in preparation for the construction of the new community center.  The County will also help take photos for elevation and of the site before construction begins.

The Supervisors discussed Cargill and their plans to build a facility near Grand Junction.  The Supervisors still didn’t feel comfortable offering any financial incentives to Cargill, but that the County would receive property taxes from the facility.  Supervisor Dawn Rudolph said she would like to see the development for the County instead of one specific area.  She was also concerned with the onset of having a Cargill facility that might attract more livestock confinements, but the proposed facility is close enough to the county line that those facilities might locate in a different county and so Greene County may lose out on increased development.  Supervisor Vice-Chair Guy Richardson said the point, if the project is county-wide, is to allow the Supervisors to have a say in the final decisions for a development project.
