Heavy rains overnight have resulted in very full sewer lines in the City of Perry.
City Hall released a public service announcement this morning stating that several sewer main lines are running at or near capacity due to the heavy rains last night into this morning. Because of this, residents may be experiencing water in their basements as the system is currently supercharged. The lines are expected to start draining once the flow decreases.
Citizens are asked to check their sump pump lines to make sure they are not dumping into the sanitary sewer system.
In addition, there are several roads currently closed due to flooding. Iowa Street is closed between 18th and 22nd Streets. 18th Street is closed from Iowa Street to Eastern Street and 22nd Street is closed between Willis Avenue and Iowa Street.
