Class 3A fourth ranked Greene County placed first on Saturday in the South Hamilton tournament despite losing its first game of the day. There were six teams in the field divided two pools of three teams each. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) jumped on back up pitcher Hammah Promes for nine runs (five earned) in the first two innings en route to a 9-3 victory over Greene County. The Rams won 10-0 in game two over Interstate 35 (Truro) and game three saw I-35 defeat SEV, so all three teams had 1-1 records in pool play. The Rams were awarded first place in the pool based on the tie-breaker of run margin. Greene County topped host SH 5-4 in the title game for their third win of the season in as many tries over the Hawks.

The game vs. SEV saw Natalie Lambert throw all six innings and allow just one earned run on five hits. She walked no one and struck out three. Hannah Promes pitched the first two winnings with Marissa Promes pitching two, and Samantha Hardaway one.

Emily Christensen tripled, singled, and drove in one run vs. SEV. Emma Saddoris doubled, and both of the Promes sisters singled once. Marissa Promes had one RBI.

Marissa Promes tossed a three-hit shut out vs. I-35 with 10 strikeouts and no walks. The Rams had 11 hits including three singles from Carleigh Paup, who totaled five RBI in the game. Tressa Rasmussen doubled, singled, and drove in one run, while Christensen tripled and singled. Kayla Mobley singled twice with Hannah Onken adding a double, and Marissa Promes collecting a single.

The title game saw the teams tied at 4-4 after two innings and the game stayed that way until the Rams scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Marissa Promes went seven innings on five hits. Three of the runs were earned and she walked one batter while totaling eight strikeouts. The Rams again had 11 hits with Mobley getting a double, two singles, and one RBI. Marissa Promes had two singles and one RBI, and Bailey Godwin added two singles. Christensen had a triple and one run batted in, while Onken, Rasmussen, and Paup each had one single.

 

Greene County is 21-5 on the season and plays in Alleman Monday night vs. North Polk in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action. The Rams lead the HOIAC by four games with seven to play.
