As the leaves continue to fall and soon and and ice will follow there are several tripping hazards we need to be aware of.
Perry Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Hinds says falls are more serious than a lot of people realize.
“Death from falls ranks second only to auto accidents and the majority of falls do occur during the fall and winter months of September through March. It’s also the second leading cause of just accidental deaths in the United States. So you think oh I’ll fall and it’s going to hurt but I’ll get up and away we go but a lot of people, when they fall they don’t get back up.”
Chief Hinds says it’s important to make sure sidewalks and driveways are clear of leaves and brush as not only can they be slippery but they can cover up large cracks or holes that could cause us to trip.
