It was a busy October for Greene County FFA members.

Mid-October, seven, first-year FFA students were introduced to the purpose of the organization through the Greenhand Fire-Up Conference in Atlantic.  Other FFA’ers learned about agriculture technology with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, such as drones, as well as utilizing Global Positioning Systems to find pre-determined targets.

FFA students also participated in a dual credit course through the high school with Iowa Central Principles of Crop Production, where students got to calculate crop yields and rode in a combine.  Two FFA members were involved in a trapshooting competition in Denison on October 24th.

Most recently, six FFA officers attended the national convention in Louisville, Kentucky.  President Wade Wuebker describes his experience during the four day trip.

“It’s my second year going, so it’s always good to go back and meet with all of the national officers.  We actually had Abrah Meyer, a state officer from Iowa was elected as a national officer, so we’re getting represented at that level.  It’s fun to go to workshops, tours, just meet with everybody (and) learn things that you can take back to your community.”

Other students joining Wuebker were Abby Badger, Mac Adamson, Mason Burkett, Taylor Wessling and Gwen Black.
