guthrie center schoolThe Guthrie Center Tigers wrestling team  will compete with three other teams tonight at the Logan-Magnolia regional dual team meet. The winning team will compete at the state dual team meet next week at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Though the Tigers have already proven to be talented on the mat, many of them also have good luck rituals which they believe can provide a competitive edge. Senior Taddy Daggett aims for consistency when preparing to wrestle. On meet days he always wears the same shirt and socks, eats the same Casey’s sub sandwich and listens to the same playlist on his iPod. Junior Cade Suhr prepares for battle by tapping his shoelaces and saying a prayer before every match.

Head coach Shawn Danker says he’s trying to keep his athletes calm and collected as they try to qualify for the state competition. “We’re trying to keep going like we always do. It’s not a whole lot different, but we’ll keep working hard and try to get mentally prepared, that’s a big factor right there.”

The meet starts at 6pm at Logan-Magnolia High School.
