Perry Police are urging parents to speak with their children about what to do if they’re approached by a stranger after an incident early Tuesday.
Chief Eric Vaughn says his department was called around 8:15am after two elementary aged children reported a suspicious person. The kids were riding their bicycles to school around 8am when a white male, approximately 40 years-old, pulled up in a light blue van near the Wiese Corporation. The man reportedly asked the students what their parent’s names are, while his arm was extended out the window of the vehicle. At no time did he exit the van or ask the children to get into the vehicle.
The children did not recognize the man and hurried to school where they reported the incident to administration, who immediately conferenced with police.
The suspect has not yet been identified but anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Perry Police.
Vaughn also reminds residents to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement as soon as possible.
