Greene County lost 8-7 at Gilbert on Friday night in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball despite having more hits and fewer errors than the Tigers. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team rallied from a 7-4 deficit in the seventh inning to tie the game, but the Tigers scored the winning run in the bottom of the frame for the victory. The loss drops Greene County to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Dylan Fouch started the game on the mound and pitched three shut out innings before being lifted in the fourth with a 2-0 lead and the basses loaded with no one out. Reid Lamoureux relieved and all three runs scored to give the Tigers a 3-2 advantage. The Rams responded with two runs in the fifth for a 4-3 lead, which stood up until Gilbert put four runs on the board in the sixth to go up 7-4. Lamoureux trailed 7-4 when Branden MIller relieved and struck out the only batter he faced in the sixth. Light rain began to fall in the bottom of the seventh and Gilbert loaded the bases with one out before getting a base hit up the middle for the victory. The Tigers finished with seven hits and six errors.

The Rams had 10 hits, all singles, and through the first five games 38 of the 41 Greene County hits accounted for one base. Lamoureux and Miller each singled twice and drove in one run. Tyler Beger had three singles and Tom Gannon had one. Wade Adcock’s run scoring single in the seventh cut the lead to 7-6 and Ben Wilkins picked up his first varsity hit to tie the score at 7-7.

The Rams had two errors on the night and made some outstanding defensive plays as well including a Logan Lansman diving catch in right field during the Tigers’ four run sixth. Stoline also had a sliding catch of a shallow fly ball in center, and Gannon threw out a base runner going from first to second when a pitch hit the dirt and bounced a few feet to the right of home plate.

Greene County plays on Monday night in Alleman vs. North Polk.
