Jefferson City Council 7_12The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved the second reading to increase the water and sewer rates each by three percent, appointed Mark Clouse permanently to Police Chief with an increased salary of $62,000 following the six month probation and the first reading to amend the bow hunting ordinance to include three additional lots in Hillcrest Estates.

The Council also approved Bolton and Menk to conduct a storm sewer study as presented for land around Wild Rose and Greene County Development Corporation’s west business park, along with extending the grant application deadline to September 1st from July 1st for non-profit organizations to apply for $26,000 under the third tier of the City’s hotel/motel tax criteria.

The Council directed City Attorney Bob Schwarzkopf to draft an ordinance eliminating wards for Council elections.

Finally, the Council heard an animal shelter update from Facilitator Don Orris. He told the Council that a new facility might cost about $200,000 to operate and maintain with a part-time and fulltime employee and an animal control person. City Administrator Mike Palmer and Councilmember David Sloan will serve on a committee with Orris and Greene County Supervisor Dawn Rudolph to agree on which entity will be responsible for what part of the operating and maintaining of the facility.
