Jefferson LibraryThe teen summer reading program at the Jefferson Public Library wrapped up last week with a party.

Library Director Jane Millard says there were 23 registered teens and 18 participated in some or all of the programs during the eight Thursday afternoons in June and July. The theme this year was “Get in the Game…READ!” The teens worked on their activity packets, read books and enjoyed various programs like Don Orris’s presentation on Greene County’s Olympic gold medal winner Doreen Wilbur.

At the party, there were activities like an Olympic scavenger hunt and an obstacle course in the adult department of the library on Thursday, July 28th after the library closed. Millard adds that they also had outdoor games with water balloons and a pizza party. Prizes were awarded at the end of the party. There was a bronze, silver and gold medal levels for prizes which were school supplies, athletic artwork and other items related to this year’s theme.

Hannah Acton read the most books and she tied with Avery Bardole for the grand prize, which was a tablet computer. Altogether the teens read a total of 201 books during the program.

Millard would like to thank all the teens who participated this year and for the sponsors support. The sponsors include Greene County Board of Supervisors, Friends of the Jefferson Public Library, Dairy Queen and Sierra Community Theater.
