students-raking-leavesTuesday was a beautiful fall day to rake up leaves and Greene County High School students and staff did so for three and a half hours in the afternoon.

Organizer Teresa Green says a total of 842 people raked 138 lawns in Grand Junction, Jefferson and Scranton. The 20th annual community service project started in 1997 with only ten yards. She describes what she thinks is the most impressive part of the project, going on its 20th year.

“We continue to have more and more volunteers every year from the community come out and drive pickups and they volunteer for our groups. Almost everybody that I ask is willing to help out as long as it doesn’t conflict with their schedule.”

Senior Noah Von Stein talks about why he likes to help with the project.

“I just think it’s just very helpful for not just our high school but just for everybody in the community in Jefferson.”

Students and volunteers were out raking leaves from noon to 3:30pm.
